Published on: 8 February 2024 In 2023, technology once again took a leap forward with the widespread implementation of AI in various sectors. Within HR, AI is already being applied today: resume screening, chatbots, candidate sourcing. However, despite this technological advancement, the human touch in HR remains extremely important
AI can write a policy, but cannot manage human relations
Technology is evolving quickly. AI bots can now write complete policies based on your corporate communication style and have the legal knowledge to adapt the contents to a specific topic like the use of social media or working from home.
Writing a policy is one thing, making sure everyone is feeling comfortable within the guidelines, is a human job. One of the primary functions of HR is to manage the intricate web of relationships within an organization. HR professionals need to understand the unique needs and aspirations of each employee. It's about creating an environment where individuals feel valued, heard, and supported.
Empathy plays a pivotal role in HR. It's the empathetic conversations, the personalized support, and the genuine connections that make HR an indispensable force in shaping a positive and inclusive work environment. Something AI tools cant provide.
AI can never replace a real face-to-face conversation
If there is one department in which AI can make big wins, it’s communication: chatbots, AI writing tools, translators, you name it. If you think about the role of HR, it involves lots of communication. But not all can be replaced by technology. In a face-to-face conversation more complex discussions can be made and more sensitive things can be discussed. Non-verbal cues can play a big role in understanding each other better.
Think about the recruitment process: a chatbot can easily conduct a first interview. “What is your previous experience?”, “Which certificates do you have?”, “Where do you live?”, “How old are you?”… These questions are factual. When it comes to assessing candidates more deeply, figuring out what their personality is really like, how they fit the company, these tasks are not to be done by bots but by professional humans.
The human touch at Select HR
At Select HR we are known for our human touch. Our consultants take the time to get to know candidates and clients. If a company is looking for a finance manager, we do not limit the intake to the factual questions. Besides experience and skills, what personality does your ideal candidate need to have? What is your identity as a company? What values do you have?
By focusing on the human part of recruitment, we can ensure a match between employee and employer that lasts longer. A fit that makes both the employee happy with changing jobs and the employer with choosing this candidate.
