2025 shows great promise on a forever changing and competitive job market and even getting an interview is a milestone! That being said - you don't get hired only on your CV. You need to show a professional etiquette so your impression remains, and you are remembered. The way you carry yourself during an interview is what makes you unique. Here's 5 essential interview etiquette tips as a candidate:

1. Preparation is key

Make sure you know who you're talking to and what you're talking about. Research the interviewer(s) and the company, understand its use cases, recent news and the core values. Not only will this show that you are interested, but also it will allow you to tailor your answers to what you already know!

2. Dress code and punctuality

Your visual presence is what the interviewer assesses THE FIRST TIME, even subconsciously. Think about it this way - if you're not sure about the dress code - it's always better to be overdressed than underdressed. On top of looking good - it's also great if you could be 10-15 minutes early and in case of an online interview - make sure that your computer is working properly, and your peripherals are operational.

3. Interview presence

From the moment you enter the building or log onto a virtual meeting - make sure you treat everyone you meet with respect and have a firm handshake or a kind smile - people remember that! During the interview be aware of your body posture and sit straight - studies show that good posture helps your confidence. Eye contact is not always easy to do but it also demonstrates professionalism and enthusiasm.

4. Clear and concise communication

During the interview, make sure that you actively listen to the questions. If you do - your answer is already halfway formulated. Make sure to understand exactly what is asked of you and provide your structured and relevant answer. Speaking of activity during the interview - don't only listen actively but also participate actively in the conversation. Remember - you prepared for the interview; you should have a few questions ready regarding the company / team structure / culture.

5. Always follow-up

The last bit of impact one has in interviews is after the interview itself - by sending a message / email to the interviewer(s) and thanking them for their time. Besides the fact that you were respectful and presented very well - now you are grateful as well!

Keep in mind - it's not just you that has to do homework - the interviewer(s) have to prepare as well to provide you with a nice experience, so in a way - you have to assess them too! By following these etiquette tips - you will position yourself as a serious candidate for which companies will queue to hire! Good luck with your next interviews! You've got this!
